Good News for Austrian Scholarship
The University of Missouri has announced five endowed positions for teaching Austrian economics. They were funded through an estate gift made by Sherlock Hibbs, who graduated from the college in 1926. Mr. Hibbs had a very successful career in investment banking with Kidder, Peabody & Co. before retiring in 1974; he passed away in July 2002.
His estate gift provided $5 million in support of three chairs and three professorships emphasizing the philosophy and tenets of the Austrian School of Economics. One of the positions funded by Mr. Hibbs, a chair in entrepreneurship, has been held back for use in future faculty recruiting.
